The car only powered by solar energy is closer to come to the market. The Dutch startup Lightyear says it will manufacture the first units as early as 2019!
Behind this startup is the renowned Solar Team of the TU Eindhoven University of Technology, which had already participated with two solar vehicles in different meetings. Both four-seater cars have license plates and can be driven on the road.
The young engineers are currently working on their unique Lightyear One with a sports coupé body and full of photovoltaic cells. They have just announced that the first ten units of this unique electric car will be completed by 2019, and by 2020 they plan to produce more than a hundred more units. The car will have a range of 400 to 800 kilometers depending on the batteries. And this car already has a price: 119,000 €. The company has opened the order book.
