The German start-up Sono Motors continues preparing its electro-solar car for a mass-production, which could start later this year or in 2019. What is relevant about this compact car are its 330 solar cells integrated in its body, which help to recharge the batteries constantly through the power of the sun. The range is about 250 kilometers and the price is actually fixed at € 16,000 without the batteries, which would be rented at a fixed monthly price.
Currently Sono Sion realises tests and direct contacts with the public throughout Germany.
The Sono car attracts a lot of attention; especially because it allows constant recharging through its solar cells, covered with polycarbonate, shatterproof, light and weather resistant, which, under proper conditions, can generate up to 30 kilometers per day. The car also allows quite fast recharges from any recharging system, and, thanks to the technology of bidirectional charging, it can also provide energy from the batteries (up to 2.7kW) to any electronic device at home, at the campsite or wherever.
To date, there are already more than 4,000 firm orders for Sono Sion. And the last thing we know is that the company has signed a millionaire contract with German supplier ElringKlinger for the development and supply of batteries for all units during the next eight years.
The Sono Sion has an electric motor with 109 hp (80 kW) of power and reaches 140 km/h.
