In France the first solar street has been prepared, that is, instead of tar for the surface of the road photovoltaic plates are used, which are so resistant that they endure until the passage of heavy trucks.
The first solar street, inaugurated by French energy and environment minister Ségoléne Royal, has a length of about one kilometer, and is expected to produce all the electricity needed for all the street lamps in the village Tourouvre-au-Perche, located in Normandy. The work was carried out by the French construction company Colas together with the National Institute of Solar Energy (INES) of France. The only drawback is that when fixing it flat, to form a road surface, it does not produce as much energy as the solar panels diagonally located on the roofs or facades.
